Rumor
According to an anonymous source, that’s somewhat trusty, by the fall of this year will be launched the replacement camera for the 50D, but the name will be changed into “Canon 7D”. You might ask “Why Canon is doing this?,” well it’s said that this is because of the confusion with some models from Nikon (Canon 40D, Nikon D40). So there will be no 60D.
Here are the supposed specifications:
- 15.1mp (apparently it will be the same sensor with some internal upgrades)
- DIGIC V (DIGIC IV a stopover to a big advancement in processing)
- New 13 Point AF
- 1080p Movie Mode
- 8 fps
- 3″ VGA LCD
- 98% Viewfinder coverage
- New Battery
- Weathersealing
- Ergonomic Upgrades
- 1x Compact Flash and 1x Secure Digital Slots
As seen from the specs, this seams a camera worth to buy for 40D and 50D owners (since 50D is a bit of a dissapointment).
Anyway we will wait and see how true of a rumor this is.

Camera Gear
Surfing through the net I came across some negative oppinions, and sadly, I have to agree, even if I am a Canon fan/owner.
For example the new Canon 5D Mark 2 has 2 major problems like Vertical Banding Noise and Black Dot. To this problems it’s added the promise that it will be launched by November and we almost get into yeah 2009 and still Canon hold back the 5D Mark II until it’s if fixed. Although sounds reassuring (they are working to make it better) a lot of people that have back-ordered the camera didn’t had the camera in their arms until the joyful Christmas. You can read more about this here: Canon EOS 5D Mark II: Barely worth it!.
But I have to say they did a lot of good things with the new 5D Mark II, and I still crave to buy it. The only problem is that they rushed to launch an still “beta” camera, without thoroughly testing it and fixing all the problems.
And about that 50D camera, well, it’s way overpriced and a lot of people still choose the 40D which is a bargain. You can read more here: Rebirth of the xxD?
Anyway, I wish Canon a bunch load of good luck, because they will need it, a lot of Canon users started to think that it would be a lot better with Nikon, including me.

Photography
As a photographer you always try to learn new things and try to find different and better results for the same problem or want to improve you skill in photography area. So, you have a day off and you want to practice a little at home or in you studio. You set your camera and your lights, but you need a subject to take a photograph of. Sometimes is hard to find a subject wiling to loose time just to be you guinea pig, so the best subject which is always willing to be photographed “in the name of evolution” is you. But all the time you find yourself running to you camera to see results or change settings.
That’s why developer Scott Forman started the creation of ShutterVoice software and was originally created to ease the process of shooting lighting tests with himself as the subject, This enables you to control the Canon EOS Utility software ( that comes with your DSLR camera ) with spoken commands. This is programmed to be out on the market by the end of the next month.
Without touching the keyboard, ShutterVoice allows for broad control of EOS Utility, it’s possible to use command phrases that adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO, set focus distance (autofocus in Live View is possible too, though with the EOS 50D and EOS 5D Mark II only), rotate pictures and enable the control of EV compensation, color temperature, white balance and more, shown in the screenshot and video bellow:
