Canon 100-400mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM II ( Photo Skills .com )There is a rumor that Canon it’s going to release an improved version of the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens around February next year. The lens will be Canon EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM II. Here are the supposed features:

  • Push/Pull design gone
  • Lens is faster having f/4 at 100mm.
  • New coating
  • Improved IS (4 stops)
  • Weather sealed
  • Sharper Zoom

As long as the price difference is exagerated (although I expect so) it will be a pretty good replacement for the current 100-400mm.

Any update on this rumor?

I am considering buying the Canon EF100-400, should I wait for MKII?

I didn’t heard anything by now, but still, i think you should wait a while, unless you need it right away. I am absolutely sure that you are better off with the new version.
